On Sunday, June 7, 2009 the WEC returns to the state capital of California with WEC 41 - Brown vs. Faber 2. The event will take place at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California. The main event features a rematch of the top ranked featherweight fighters in the world Mike Brown and Urijah Faber. Brown and Faber along with WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres are arguably the best fighters in the world that are not fighting in a UFC weight class. In November, Faber lost his WEC featherweight title to Brown via first round TKO, when he was caught with a hard punch during a spinning back fist. Faber will look to settle the score in his hometown of Sacramento, as Brown looks to prove that it was not a fluke and solidify his status as the top ranked 145-pound fighter in the world.
The main card also features another top-flight featherweight bout with clear title shot implications on the line, as the fearsome Brazilian striker Jose Aldo looks to continue his reign of terror in the WEC, as he takes on the tough-as-nails California native Cub Swanson. The winner of this bout should find themselves next in line to challenge the winner of the card's main event between Brown and Faber for the title.
In lightweight action, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is back in action, after his championship match against WEC title holder Jamie Varner ended in a bit of controversy in January with Varner retaining his title. Cerrone will look to knock off tough WEC newcomer James Krause, who is bringing his flawless 10-0 record with him to the WEC lightweight division.
The final main card bout, which is guaranteed to be aired on VERSUS will be a featherweight bout between former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver and one of the WEC's most promising prospects in Josh Grispi. This could be a mtach signaling in the changing of an era as Pulver who is 14 years older than Grispi is approaching the twilight of his storied MMA career. WEC 41 will be televised live on VERSUS tonight at 9 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. PST.
