10.04.09 DREAM.11 - Featherweight Grand Prix Preview Author: Bevois
DREAM.11 will take place Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. There will be 9 bouts in total, including the conclusion to the DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix 2009. This will mark the conclusion and crown the winner of DREAM's 16-man featherweight MMA tournament. The DREAM featherweight division has a 63 kilograms (139 pounds) weight limit, where the Japanese MMA organization WVR - Sengoku featherweight division has a 65 kilograms (143 pounds) weight limit. Meanwhile, the WEC and other North American promotions use a 66 kilograms (145 pounds) weight limit. DREAM.11 will be broadcast in North America on HDNet via tape delay.

DREAM.11 will be also feature two semi-final matches in the DREAM Super Hulk Grand Prix 2009. In the first match up the always entertaining Ikuhisa "The Punk" Minowa of Japan will take on the Korean "Techno Goliath" Hong Man Choi, who measures a staggering 7'2" tall and 320 pounds. The second semi-final bout is between former PRIDE and UFC star Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou of Cameroon and former PRIDE star Bob Sapp, who was eliminated by Minowa in the first round of the tournament, but was brough back to fill in for an injured Gegard Mousasi.

DREAM.11 will also have a lightweight title bout between the current champion Joachim Hansen of Norway and the local challenger Shinya Aoki of Japan. These two men have fought each other twice before having gone 1-1 against each other in those two previous bouts. Aoki won the first meeting via Gogoplata in December 2006, while Hansen won the rematch via KO for the DREAM lightweight title in July 2008. The winner of the rubber-match between these two rivals will walk away with the DREAM lightweight title.

The DREAM.11 fight card will be finalized with the participation of two former PRIDE stars and Japanese MMA legends in two separate super fights. Tatsuya "Crusher" Kawajiri is a former Shooto champion and PRIDE Bushido star will take on Melchor "Barracuda" Manibusan of Guam in a lightweight contest. The second super fight will take place in the middleweight division and will showcase one of the most legendary and enetertaining fighters in the sport, as PRIDE and K-1 superstar Kazushi "The Gracie Hunter" Sakuraba takes on the American fighter Rubin "Mr. Hollywood" Williams who is making his professional MMA debut.
