01.30.07 European Results Day 2 Author: Gumby

Over 800 competitors representing 18 different countries made for a memorable European Jiu Jitsu Championship.

Partial Results from the Black Belt division. Due to the injuries he sustained in the Absolute final Xande Ribeiro sat out today, and Gracie Barra teammates Braulio Estima and Lucio "Lagarto" Rodrigues split the Pesado division. Alan "Finfou" Nascimento looked impressive in taking the Medio division.

American Rafael Lovato Jr. takes his first international gold as a black belt in the Super-Pesado division (only being about one kilogram above the minimum weight), submitting both of his opponents in under three minutes in a tremendous display of skill.

Mario Reis, last year's absolute champion opted to fight in the SuperSuper Heavy class this year. Although game the weight difference was perhaps to great to overcome and Mario went out in the first round due to points.

Large attention was made to the Seniors division, in which the legendary Fabio Gurgel stepped onto the mat to win both his division and the absolute. With his long time coach Jacare inhis corner, Gurgel went on to submit all of his opponents in five matches with absolutely textbook jiu jitsu.

The National Teams Championship saw four teams participating in the brown/black challenge. In the semi final Team Brazil overwhelmed a game Team Sweden. In the other semi final Team Poland took out Team France. Team Brazil was victorious in the finals, but the tournament as a whole showed how far the Eurpoeans have come in Jiu Jitsu.
