Long Beach, CA – Scoring his first win since November of last year David Gardner would out work KOTC veteran and BJJ black belt Thomas Kenney Sunday night at Long Beach City College.
Kenney (13-4) would start off strong throwing leg kicks and punch combinations at his opponent, but as Gardner (16-12) would settle in and find his range he would close the distance and take the fight to the ground. From there Gardner would control Kenney with movement and punches that would frustrate the Jiu Jitsu black belt. In the third Kenney would have one last change on the feet and push the pace again with strikes, but the experienced Gardner would gut out the attack and in the end pull out a unanimous decision.
In the Co main event the always exciting Darrel “Mongoose” Montague would make short work of his opponent Empire Training Center’s Joe Bedolla.
Coming out with a feverish pace Montague (4-1) would engage Bedolla (0-1) with punches that would stager the Corona native early on, Bedolla though would recover and seize the opportunity to shoot in scoring the takedown on his opponent. Once on the mat though his control would end as Montague would first score a sweep then transition from within the top position and eventually use punches to set up a rear naked choke that would force Bedolla to tap.
In other action V Mat fighter Danny Juarez (2-0) would use solid punches, takedowns and ground and pound to score a unanimous decision victory over Martial Art Innovations fighter Juan Rivas (2-2).
In true Team Gokor/Hayastan fashion newcomer Sako “The Chainsaw” Chivitchian would finish Sergio “Suave” Salcido (4-4) via arm bar in less then one round of action.
In a catch weight bout of 170lbs V Mat fighter Dr. Alex Suhonosov, MD (0-1) would use strikes and ground work to score a unanimous decision over De La O Jiu Jitsu purple belt Frank “The Tank” Park (2-1).
Fighting at a catch weigh of 160lbs Lake Forrest Subfighter’s Adam “Omega” Watts (0-1) would use a combination of strikes and ground work to eventually submit Millennia MMA team fighter Chris “Go Go” Gomez (2-2).
In featherweight action Team Quest fighter Mike Palo would overwhelm fellow newcomer No Limits fighter Eddie Vargas using his strikes, ground work and a rear naked choke that would force Vargas to submit.
Finally on the card LA Boxing team fighter Manny “Bam Bam” Lara (2-0) would use some brutal ground and pound from within the top position to KO newcomer Diego “Mexican Hulk” Hernandez.
