11.30.08 Podcast #145 Saulo Ribeiro & Jiu-Jitsu University, BJJ in Asia Wrap Up Author: Fightworks Podcast
As we mentioned earlier this week, multiple time world champion of Brazilian jiu-jitsu Saulo Ribeiro published a new book about BJJ coauthored by Kevin Howell called Jiu-Jitsu University. Yesterday we sat down with Saulo armed with questions from the Mighty 600,000 (you!). Some of you called in your questions to 877-247-4662, our toll-free answering machine and some of you emailed your questions to me. Saulo answers your questions about the book, his thoughts on how long it should take to get a black belt, his influences, and tons more.

Over the past few weeks we have discussed Brazilian jiu-jitsu as it is developing in the continent of Asia. Two weeks ago we spoke about training BJJ in Japan. One week ago we spoke about BJJ in China. This time around we speak with a local subject matter expert, Luke Chaya. In addition to possessing the graphic design skills that resulted in The FightWorks Podcast gi patch, Luke runs BJJ-Asia.com, a site which not surprisingly focuses on Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Asia. Based in Thailand, Luke’s site has become a hub of information about South East Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Phillipines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, etc.). In this episode we discuss the nascent jiu-jitsu scene in Asia, from its challenges to reasons to be hopeful.

Don’t forget that you can contact us to get your questions answered here on The FightWorks Podcast: BJJ Radio too! Just call (877) 247-4662!
