09.25.09 Respect in the Cage Author: Christopher Landeros
John Pena’s productions Respect in the cage would be a huge hit this past Sunday at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena here in Pico Rivera California. Offering an MMA expo hosted by UFC’s Stephen Bonner and a fight card packed with UFC veterans and new comers alike the fans got their money’s worth that night.

In the main event Shonie “Mr. International” Carter would knock out fellow TUF alumni fighter Danny Abbadi in less then two rounds of action.

Being the entertainer he is Carter (47-19-7) would push the pace early on with combinations and leg kicks from all angles as he would try to make short work of Abbadi. On the other hand Abbadi (3-5) would opt to clinch up the veteran fighter and throw strikes from the inside while looking for the takedown. Seeing that Abbadi wanted the takedown Carter would create distance and land a vicious combination ending in a right hand that would KO Abbadi handing him his second loss this year.

In what some would call a “hometown decision” Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Joe Camacho would score a unanimous decision victory over CCC veteran Anthony McDavitt.

From the sound of the bell it would be Mcdavitt’s (5-5) striking, notably his leg kicks that would control the tempo of the fight and as each would find their mark they would only weaken Camacho’s (11-14-3) shots. To Camacho credit though he would work through the pain and land some strikes of his own but would be unable to take the fight to the ground as Mcdavitt’s defense would stop him every time. In the end to the surprise of many in the audience Camacho’s hand would be raised as the judges would award him the decision.

In featherweight action Affliction veteran the always exciting Bao Quach would submit KOTC veteran Aaron “The Blood Spiller” Miller.

Quach (16-9-1) for most of the fight would control the action with his footwork and combinations, every Miller (8-5) would throw something Quach would just always seem to be one step ahead. Miller though would show a lot of heart in his attempts to go punch for punch with his opponent but in the second he would be knocked down with a vicious combination by Quach. Quach would waste no time and go in for the kill with some ground and pound before taking an arm and locking it up and forcing Miller to tap.

In heavyweight action Big Tim Persey (10-3) fighting out of Team Oyama would draw with his opponent Team Quest fighter Aaron Hayes (3-1).

Throughout the fight both fighters would control the action using punches and the ground game but neither would seem to be able to gain the advantage. For all three rounds they would go back and forth but as the bell would signal the end of the fight the judges could not decide a victor and declare the bout a draw.

In other action Adrenaline fight team member Shad Smith (9-10-1) would stop Millennia fighter Octavio Morales (3-2) via TKO using a brutal left hook and a barrage of punches on the ground that would force the ref to stop the bout.

Using his size and top position effectively Richie Whitson (5-0) fighting out of team quest Temecula would score a unanimous decision victory Worlds Collide veteran Leonardo Soares (1-4).

In welterweight action Mike Sandez (6-6) would use striking combinations, takedown defense and scrambles from the bottom to score a split decision victory over Body Shop fighter Harold Lucambio (4-5).

In an action packed fight new comer and Executive fitness fighter Eli Hoyle would stop M.K.A fighter Miles Howard (0-3) via TKO due to strikes early in fight.

Finally on the card Team Pinnacle fighter George Valdez (1-0) would use his submission skills to arm bar Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter Jamie Walsh (1-0) in less then two rounds of action.
