Hawthorne, Ca – The Hanger Athletic Exchange would play host this past Saturday to the always exciting MMA promotion Total Fighting Alliance. The Hurricane at the Hangar as it was called brought together an array of fighters from throughout Southern California as each hoped to make a splash onto what has become one of California’s best MMA shows.
Getting a great opportunity to showcase his skill newcomer and South Bay Jiu-jitsu trained fighter Joseph Allison would make a successful debut that night against Spartan gym fighter Brandon Michels (2-3). Although Michels would push the pace early on with punches and the takedown it would be Allison who would take control of the fight using the top position and ground and pound. Once on top Allison would settle in and start to land some hard punches that would make it difficult for his opponent to avoid and or mount any kind of offense against. In the end as the bell would sound signaling the end of the fight the judges would all see it the same way and award Allison the unanimous decision victory.
In the co main event Diego Bautista (1-0) fighting out of Team Subfighter would use his superior grappling skills to stop Hermosa Beach native and South Bay Jiu-jitsu fighter Cordero (3-4). Even though Cordero would get the takedown early it would be Bautista who would reverse the position and take control of the fight. Once in the top position he would rain down blows that would force the ref to call the fight giving him his second win of his career.
That night the 135lbs belt would change hands as Team Subfighter’s Tyler Weathers (4-1) would out point the current champion and Team Sidekicks fighter Jeff Martin (6-2). For all five rounds Weathers would come out aggressive with his punches and score the takedown at will pushing the champ from the top position. Although Tyler would keep the top position for the entire fight he really could not do much against the champs guard as it would keep him at bay throughout the entire fight. In the end though based on his aggressiveness and positional control the judges would award Weathers the unanimous decision victory.
In the only submission of the night 1-0 Matt Bahntge would use the kimura effectively to stop his opponent Wardance gym fighter David Jalbert (0-1). Although Jalbert would come out aggressive and score the takedown it would be Bahntge who would use his Jiu-jitsu skills to first reverse the position and use a triangle to set up a Kimura that would make his opponent tap out just two minutes into round one.
In a seesaw battle 0-1 Anthony Smith would use his kicks and aggressiveness to edge out a spilt decision victory over newcomer and American Top Team fighter Greg Gagnon.
In lightweight action Team Subfighter would add another W to their record as their fighter Isaac Gutierrez (2-0) would use strikes, the takedown and ground and pound to score a unanimous decision victory over new comer Vance Bejarano. In another close contest Aaron Birn would use the takedown and top position to score a spilt decision victory over fellow new comer Deshalen Barber. Finally on the card 0-2 Jose Morales would use the triangle to score the first win of his career over Joker’s Wild fighter Walter Pinto (1-1).
