Mixed Martial Arts would invade Artesia California as Todd Meacham’s Total Fighting Alliance promotion would be held at the Artesia DES Bullfighting arena Saturday night. Bringing with them 8 action packed fights new and old fans alike got a taste of what the TFA brand of MMA is all about, Excitement!
In the main event TFA’s own Damian Stibble (1-0) would have a successful return to the cage that night as he would submit UCM veteran Antonio Gianopoulos (0-1).
For three rounds the two combatants would engage back and forth using leg kicks and punches to set up their takedowns and ground work. On the floor neither Stibble nor Gianopoulos could gain any advantage as each would use bridges and scrambles to avoid each other’s game. Entering the third round though Stibble would seem to have the better cardio and push the pace, eventually catching Gianopoulos in a standing figure four toe hold which would force him to tap out with less then a minute left in the fight.
In the co main event journeyman fighter Jason Meaders (7-7) would up his winning streak to 4 in a row as he would outpoint TFA fighter Jason Cordero (3-4).
Using sprawl and brawl tactics Meaders would control most of the fight landing the crisper punches and scoring the cleaner takedowns. Cordero though would not go down without a fight showing a lot of heart fighting back with punches and ground work whenever possible. In the end however the judges would award Meaders the fight giving him the unanimous decision victory.
In an unfortunate accident newcomer Saleh Williams would dislocate his knee while shooting a double leg takedown in his fight against TFA Vet Mozzy Arfa (1-1). The ref seeing that his knee was out would have no choice but to stop the fight and award Arfa the win. After the fight a tough Williams would have his knee popped back in place before stating in an interview he would love to fight Arfa again.
In other action Charles Deraczunas would use sprawl and brawl tactics to win a unanimous decision victory over fellow new comer Shaun Gutiridge.
In lightweight action PKG fighter Jared Carlston (1-0) would submit new comer Dominic Gutierrez via triangle choke at the end of an action packed round one.
In heavyweight action Joseph Micaletti (0-1) would use Taekwondo style kicks, punches and the top position effectively to score a unanimous decision victory over new comer Josh Holland.
In lightweight action Bodyshop fighter Matt Doyle (1-2) would finish TFA fighter Jacob Wood using am arm in guillotine less then a minute into round one.
Finally on the card Raymond Ayala (0-1) would use his submission skills to finish fellow TFA fighter John Lopez (0-2) via foot lock early in round number one.
