BJJ Black Belt Demian Maia Returns to Brazil

    Fri, 2013-08-16 00:14 — Benjamin Bieker

Demian Maia was supposed to return to Brazil earlier this year at UFC 163 against longtime UFC veteran Josh Koscheck, but now he will be facing off with an American black belt in Jake Shields. They will be fighting at UFC Fight Night 29 which is set for Ginasio Jose Correa arena which is in Barueri, Brazil. This will be an interesting fight as both fighters are fans of the ground game. Obviously, Maia is one of the best BJJ practitioners to transfer into MMA, and he holds 9 of his 18 wins by submission over big names like Chael Sonnen, Ed Herman, Rick Story, and Nate Quarry.

Famed Black Belt Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Ready to Train

    Tue, 2013-08-13 09:17 — Benjamin Bieker

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira captured the biggest win of his UFC career earlier this year when he beat former champion Rashad Evans by decision. He was then set to take on another former champion and past foe Mauricio Rua who beat Nogueira back in 2005 in PRIDE. The match was the fight of the year, and was an instant classic for that years tournament. Since that time, both fighters have had varied success with Shogun capturing the UFC title, but having traded wins and losses in his last few fights.

BJJ at Nova Uniao Plus post BBQ challenge matches at CR

    Mon, 2013-08-12 12:27 — thheffelfinger

This past week has been a busy one. Nicole and I moved over to CR HQ, so the first part of the week was spent packing and unpacking, and the start of many small projects around the Connection Rio hostels. But one things for certain in Brazil, it's never all work and no play; I got some great training in this week along with some BBQing and a night of athletic challenges.
