I know I'm a little late but here is the vid of one of my fights from this year's Pan's! I had a strange but overall good experience at Pan's this year. Once again I lost over 20 pounds in a month to fight at lightweight and I think I made the weight cut better this time than I ever have in the past. My fight in my division was against Thiago Abreu from Checkmat and it ended up being a disappointment because although I felt like I was controlling the fight the whole time at about 6:00 in I was DQ'ed for "sralling", which was a more than questionable call by the ref that led to many complaints and much outrage and not just from me. In reality what made me the most bummed was that I was so well trained and ready to go and didn't even get to fight one whole fight. But then I was reminded by my training partner Rafael Eboli that black belt adults don't have to medal to sign up for the open and I went down and put my name in right away, a move that saved the whole experience for me. I won my first fight in the open (video above) against tough as nails Caio Almeida, and then went on to fight Lucas Lepri in my second match. This is what really made the experience for me. I go to big events like the Pan to get the chance to fight the best of the best in my division as much as anything else so I was really excited to fight against the multiple time lightweight world champion. I felt good in the match and was actually winning by an advantage up until he swept me around 6 or 7 minutes into the fight. Then upon making a mistake in my guard he was able to get to my back and after resisting for about a minute in his choke I eventually was forced to tap. Was an awesome experience and I came out of it with more confidence than ever and have already felt my game improve since then, now I'm ready for the American Cup this coming weekend!!
