Caio Terra BJJ World Champ

Caio Terra is a World Black Belt Jiu Jitsu Champion who fights for the Gracie Fighter team out of the Gracie Academy in Pleasant Hill, California. The Brazilian black belt, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil came to California just over three years ago.

In 2008, Caio earned his first World Black Belt Championship title. In consecutive years to follow, Caio earned the right to be called the 2008, 2009 and 2010 and now the World NO-GI Black Belt Champion. Caio just recently won the 2011 Pan Ams.

Caio has competed throughout many states such as California, Arizona, Nevada, New York, Brazil the Middle East and many more. He has frequented Las Vegas on many occasions.

2010 would prove to be a good and productive year for the Gracie phenom winning multiple Golds in many of the biggest stages of Jiu Jitsu.

Early 2010 he competed at the Las Vegas NAGA where he won the Gi and No Gi Black Belt divisions there as well. After winning his own weight class he stepped up to the No Gi Absolute division to fight his way to the finals only to face a 257 pound American Division 1 Wrestler who ate up other black belts to earn the right to face off with the 131 pound Gracie Phenom. Ultimately Caio would prove to be too fast and illusive for the Goliath like opponent, bringing the championship Belt to the Bay Area.

Later Caio would return to fight in the Las Vegas International Open. There he continued his quest for the Gold winning the Black Belt light feather weight division. On the same day in Las Vegas, Caio would compete in the American National Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship, where all the top fighters in the U.S. end up battling for their right to be called the true champion; he would reign victory in his division winning the Gold. Caio again, would enter the Absolute division where it would end up the meager 138 pound Gracie Fighter battling the fierce 238 pound super heavy weight World Black Belt champion, Bruno Bastos. Again, he would send yet another Goliath crumbling to his defeat.

While you may be amazed at his accomplishments this year, the amazing thing about all of this is that Caio Terra has only been training Jiu Jitsu for just under 8 YEARS. He earned his Black belt from Reyson Gracie and Paulo Strauch in Brazil in July 2006 making his rise to black belt in only 3 1/2 years; one of the fastest ever recorded. OF COURSE there were many skeptics! His frequent visits to the podiums during his rise would make believers out of all of them. In his eight year career he is the 11 time IBJJF World Medalist, 4 time IBJJF Black Belt Gold Medalist 4 times CBJJO World Gold medalist. And finally the 2 time CBJJO Black belt Gold medalist. CBJJO is a dead federation, who was at the time bigger than IBJJF.

Some of the people Caio has helped with their Jiu Jitsu are UFC, Gracie Fighters Nick and Nate Diaz, Jake Shields and Gil Melendez just to name a few.

Caio eats, drinks, sleeps and bleeds Jiu Jitsu. He is the adult Jiu Jitsu instructor at the Cesar Gracie Academy in Pleasant Hill, CA. and the Head instructor at the Ultimate Fitness Academy in San Ramon, CA.

When he is not teaching, training or competing, he is traveling from state to state conducting Seminars. Caio also recently completed an instructional video through one of his sponsors, Budovideos. Despite his controversial start in BJJ due to his quick rise to Black Belt, Caio Terra’s talent and track record make him one of the best and most accomplished Black Belt Jiu Jitsu fighters of his generation.
