Finally arrived in Rio after 33hrs fly time- 38hrs in total. Went straight from airport to training- which was lucky as had bad water retention in feet.
Am staying this week with an American fighter who is also heavily involved in volunteer movements in Rochina (biggest favela or slum in Rio). It goes right up and over one of the mountains here.
Training at Rochina this week and helping out with volunteer programs- won't be staying there till next week as it is a bit dangerous at the moment- the police come in to shoot people a couple of times a week, many innocent people are killed by stray bullets apparently..
I will be staying in Rochina with one of the instructors (named 'baby') and his family. His house is small and is on the main street where all the gang members hang around armed with AK47's- no fucking around with little guns here!
Was discussing a bullet proof vest with the American that I am staying with- we both laughed when we realised that we would probably still be fucked if shot!(The roof of Rochina Jiu Jitsu was blown of during last gang war- Whats a vest gonna do!?) Oh well..
Many good organisations up here to look at websites- will add them to friends of el bruto soon.
If I get kidnapped tell the Australian government to get fucked in terms of helping me- my own fault for being here! Love to all, Chris Shamrock.
