On Saturday, September 17th, 2011, local Huntington Beach athletes will throw, jump, row and lift weights for “Fight Gone Bad: 6”, a cause to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The event takes places at 11:00 a.m. at SurfCity CrossFit, 18421 Gothard St. Suite 200 in Huntington Beach.
The event is free and open to the public and is to support the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

Participants will raise money by getting friends and family members to sponsor them as they compete against the clock in one of CrossFit’s most brutal workouts affectionately called Fight Gone Bad. During the workout, participants move throughfive stations for one minute each. Upon completion of the “round” of exercises, they get a minute rest and go for two more rounds. Scoring is based on the number of repetitions an athlete can complete in each minute. The exercises include wall ball (throwing a weighted ball at a target 10-15 feet overhead) pushpress, 20-24 inch box jump, dead-lift high-pull and rowing.

The workout was given its name by World Ultimate Fighting Champion BJ Penn, who remarked after finishing, “That was just like a fight gone bad.” Fight Gone Bad began as a fundraising event in 2006. From those humble beginnings and with the support of the CrossFit community, we’ve proven what a small, totally committed group of people can accomplish. The first four editions of Fight Gone Bad have raised a combined total of more than $2 million. More than 300 CrossFit affiliates throughout the United States and Canada will join in this year’s fundraiser.

CrossFit is a system of training that stresses endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, flexibility, agility, accuracy, balance and coordination. It seeks to improve work capacity across the full gamut of potential physical challenges.

The event takes places at 11:00 a.m. at SurfCity CrossFit --18421 Gothard St. Suite 200 in Huntington Beach. The event is free and open to the public. Anthony Campo, the owner of CrossFit Surf City, said he is proud to support the Wounded Warrior Foundation and is excited about the response he has received from our members and the community.
