Eliminate Stress with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
    By Marcello C. Monteiro's Academy

There are a number of different types of stress that we all face these days. People are facing job layoffs, bills they cannot pay and failing health. There are too many people who are overweight and just unhappy with their body. All of that stress increases the risk of heart disease and other problems. There are dozens of ways to take care of some of that stress including medications and expensive therapy. But, did you know that you can use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as an impressive stress reliever?

The more that you move around, the better you will feel. That has been proven time and time again. But, there are some times when a gentle walk around the block is just not going to get it. When your stress has gone from just agitating to full on anger and you feel like you want to punch and kick, you can try BJJ to get rid of some of that excess rage. Once you hit the mat, you are focused on what you are doing, not on what was bothering you before you got to the academy. You are paying attention to getting the techniques right, not anything else. You are focused on escaping from your sparring partner and trapping them with a counter move.
By the time you are done with class, you are dripping with sweat and your muscles are all loose and pliant. Your BJJ coach is there to guide you to that moment of bliss, to keep refocusing your attention back to where you need it to be.
As You Get Better, You Feel Better
But BJJ is not just a stress reliever for that one class or during class. The effects of MMA training are long term and ongoing. As you get started, you will start losing weight but other physical changes might start happening as well. You might start sleeping better. You might find that you need less prescription medications or fewer over the counter pain medications because you are feeling better and hurting less. Better health means that you are going to deal with stress better overall.
Stress is not really the monster people make it out to be. Some stress is actually good for keeping people on their toes. But, it is the chronic day to day stress that nags at people that can become a problem with some people. If you are able to blow off those stresses, that is fine. If you are not, you face the negative aspects of stress. Using Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a stress reliever can protect the health of those people and allow them an outlet.
People who use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or other types of exercise for stress release eventually become people that are far less stressed, even if they were the high strung people that were always stressed out before.  Some people feel that effect in their first Jiu Jitsu class while others might need a week or two to realize that BJJ can help them conquer stress.
