The aim in the 6 minutes match is to end the match by submission, thereby reducing the need for a points tally. Wrestlers will have to learn to finish and defend submissions, while jiu-jitsu students will have to learn to execute and defend takedowns from wrestlers and throws from Judo and Sambo players . A submission negates the need to resolve a match by points.
Quote from Felicia Oh (JJ Machado/BJMUTA) ADCC 2007 silver medallist
‘I am really excited to have this competition.’ said Oh, who hails from Tarzana, California. ‘It is very exciting to grapple at this level. It is a great experience for me. The event brings athletes from all levels of wrestling jiu jitsu and Sambo and brings an edge to everything. It forces us to be more rounded and better grapplers. I think it is an amazing opportunity to make the World Team and I will be so proud to be able to represent my country. It is really unbelievable!’
