Grand Master Helio Gracie was born October 1, 1913, and this October he would have celebrated his 100th birthday. To commemorate 100 years of Helio Gracie, his grandchildren will be hosting a once-in-a-lifetime event on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, and we hope you can make it!
The Helio Gracie 100-Year Celebration, is a full-day event that will including the following:
Helio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seminar (11am – 3pm)
The celebration will kick off with a special 4-hour Super Seminar taught by Helio’s grandchildren, including but not limited to: Ryron, Rener, Kron, Ralek, Rhalan and Kroyler Gracie. This will be the first time that Helio’s grandchildren have taught a seminar together and you definitely won’t want to miss it!
Helio Gracie Philosophy Seminar (3pm – 4pm)
Some of the most important lessons Grand Master Helio passed on to his descendants were off the mat. Once the jiu-jitsu seminar is over, there will be a special Gracie Philosophy Seminar in which each of the grandchildren will discuss the most important life lessons they learned from their grandfather. The philosophy seminar will also feature a Q and A opportunity for the attendees.
Helio Gracie Banquet Dinner (6:30pm – 8:30pm)
Although he was a simple man who devoted his life to jiu-jitsu, one thing Grand Master Helio loved was good cooking. To wrap up a long day of jiu-jitsu and philosophy, you will be treated to a special banquet dinner with Helio’s grandchildren featuring one of Helio’s favorite meals including salad, fish, pasta, vegetables, and his all-time favorite Corn Soup recipe!
Helio Gracie Film Presentation (8:30pm – 9pm)
During this special film presentation, you will get to know the other side of Grand Master Helio through the stories and testimonials of the people who knew him the best, his students, his friends, and his children.
Plus, Helio Gracie 100-Year Art Unveiling (9pm)
To commemorate 100 Years of Helio Gracie, world renowned painter, Stephen Holland, was commissioned to paint a spectacular piece of the Grand Master. This never-before-seen masterpiece will be unveiled at the Helio 100 Celebration!
1-Week of Free Training in Jiu-Jitsu Heaven
Helio Gracie week, September 30th through October 5th, is the one week where training at the Gracie Academy Headquarters is 100% FREE for any visiting students. So if you are traveling from a distance to attend the Helio Gracie 100-Year Celebration, we strongly encourage you to show up a week early and bring an extra gi to take advantage of this full week of free training in Jiu-Jitsu Heaven! If you’re a beginner you can do all Gracie Combatives group classes, and if you’ve been training for 6 months or more, feel free to jump into any and all Master Cycle group classes for the week!
