Kenny Florian September Newsletter

With the opening of the Florian Martial Arts Center, various appearances, my ESPN work and cornering fighters, I have definitely been a busy man lately. The one good thing is that the days are full of interesting experiences.

As some of you have heard, I will be fighting Joe Stevenson on November 15th at UFC 91 at the MGM in Las Vegas. Joe Stevenson (34-8) is a very tough competitor. His experience, wrestling abilities, submission skills and improved stand-up game, make him a dangerous opponent.

I am looking forward to this great challenge and will step up my training in the next couple of weeks. It will also be pretty cool to be fighting on the same card as the legendary Randy Couture as he takes on a big and tough Brock Lesnar.

In some other great news, I would like to invite everyone to the Florian Martial Arts Center Grand Opening Event on Saturday, October 4th.

Although the mats are already blazing with eager students during our afternoon and evening classes, my brother Keith and I were looking for a good excuse to throw a party. We will have snacks, drinks, laughs, giveaways, autographs, a free seminar and more. Stop by and check out the center, or just say hello.

We are located at 6 Webster Street in Brookline, Mass. across from Subway. Visit FlorianMartialArtsCenter.com. I will have more information on our Grand Opening Event in an upcoming email.

I would also like to congratulate a couple of fighters. One is my brother Kirk and the other looks like my brother, but it is named Kurt Pellegrino.

My brother Kirk competed in his first MMA fight a few weeks ago. He fought a tough opponent and in the Florian tradition fought up a weight class or two. He showed a good all around game, but ultimately won the fight on the ground by rear naked choke in the first round. Great job Kirk. You made us proud!!

Kurt Pellegrino deserves big props for his great performance against a highly skilled and game Thiago Tavares at UFC 88 in Atlanta. Kurt really stepped up his training and it showed in what was a Fight of the Night performance. This was my first time cornering at the UFC and it was definitely interesting being on the other side of the octagon.

Congrats Kurt, you deserve it man, but I would like my voice back at some point.

World Championship Fighting takes place live on Friday, September 19th at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington Massachusetts. There is an action packed night of fights including the return of UFC veteran Sam “The Alaskan Assassin” Hoger John Benoit, Dan Bonnell and many more!

Before the fights there will be an autograph session from 5:30pm-6:30pm, with myself, Marcus Davis, Joe Lauzon, Dan Lauzon, Tamdan McCrory and Sean Gannon.
