Nick Diaz returns to action on March 29th

    Wed, 2008-03-12 11:59 — Bevois

Nick Diaz has been added to the Strikeforce/EliteXC co-promotion, which is taking place live on Showtime at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Diaz was slated to be fighting at the EliteXC event on April 26th in Hawaii against Muhsin Corbbrey, but that fight has been cancelled and Diaz's new opponent for the March 29th show has been named as Jae Suk 'The Korean Icepick' Lim. The Korean fighter Jae Suk Lim had fought his entire career in his homeland of South Korea mostly in South Korea's premier MMA organization SpiritMC, where he just earned another win on March 1st. However, when ProElite acquired SpiritMC in 2007, Lim was given the opportunity to fight overseas for the first time in ProElite's mothership organization EliteXC.

On November 10th of last year, Lim made an impressive fighting debut in America at 'EliteXC - Renegade' by successfully submitting Daniel Pinedo at 2:42 of the first round via Rear Naked Choke. The fight took place on the undercard of Nick Diaz and K.J. Noon's 160-pound lightweight title fight, which was cut short by a doctor due to cuts around Diaz's eyes. Diaz subsequently went in for plastic surgery after a specialist determined that the sharpness of the bones above his eyes would lead to more cuts and make it impossible for him to pursue a successful MMA career. The surgery was a complete success and Diaz is eager to get back to his winning ways.

The star-studded Strikeforce/EliteXC event will also feature three highly anticipated title fights. The first will feature one of Diaz's teammates and Top 5 lightweight Gilbert Melendez, as he defends his Strikeforce 155-pound lightweight title against highly touted Midwestern fighter Gabe Lemley. Jake Shields, who is also a teammate of Diaz, will square off with UFC veteran Drew Fickett for the vacant EliteXC 170-pound welterweight title. Finally, the night's main event will feature two bitter NorCal rivals as MMA legend Frank Shamrock defends his Strikeforce 185-pound middleweight title against K-1 kickboxing star turned MMA sensation Cung Le.
