    you have until Monday October 10 at 11:59pm PT to sign up for one of America's favorite tournaments. We're talking about Northern California's U.S. Open XVI.


    The U.S. Open has become so popular that after 15 years in Santa Cruz, CA, the tournament has outgrown it's iconic venue. For the 16th installment, the U.S. Open will move to nearby San Jose, CA

    in a much larger venue at the San Jose State University Events Center.


    In a video post this month, U.S. Open creator Claudio Franca, said he expects the tournament to reach 1,000 plus competitors. See the video of Professor Franca discussing the tournament's history here

    There will also be a Referee & Rules Seminar the same Friday before the tournament. The seminar, led by IBJJF's Director of Referees Alvaro Mansor, is a seminar for anyone seeking a greater understanding of sport jiujitsu rules. The seminar will be held at Claudio Franca's San Jose academy. See more details below.

    Want to learn the rules of sport jiu-jitsu? Professor Alvaro Mansor, 4th Degree Black Belt and Director of Referees for the Confederation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CBJJF) and the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), will be conducting a Rules and Referee seminar in order to help maintain and enhance the quality of refereeing at the U.S. Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament.

    Time: 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

    Location: Claudio França Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, San Jose

    Price: U.S. Open Competitors: $30/ General Public: $60

    This seminar is not only for referees. It is for anyone who seeks a greater understanding of the sport of Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu.  


    Competitors should take this opportunity to understand the rules of the game in which you are playing.


    Knowing the rules gives you a competitive edge and also helps avoid misunderstandings over referee decisions.


    The price will be $30 for competitors and $60 for the general public and non-competitors.
