Manager of Developing Wrestling Styles



USA Wrestling is seeking a Manager of Developing Wrestling Styles, a full-time position which reports to the Director of Communications and Special Projects. This individual will manage USA Wrestling’s programs in the developing styles of international wrestling, which includes Grappling, Beach Wrestling and Sombo.



This position will have responsibilities which include event operations, grassroots development, promotion, marketing and international team organization. This individual will coordinate closely with staff in a number of USA Wrestling Departments, to include Events, State Services National Teams and Communications. The position will also require work with numerous volunteers within the organization.



Event responsibilities include obtaining contracts and budgets for national and regional competitions in these styles, and serving as the event coordinator for USA Wrestling at these tournaments. The individual will assist in the promotion of these tournaments, and work with a diverse group of volunteers and other staff members to conduct the events.



This individual will take a leadership role in the development of each sport, by creating marketing strategies to increase membership and event sanctions in these styles. Duties include responding to requests for materials and support from state associations and clubs. The development of promotional literature and resources will be included as part of the formation of a program to educate the public about these sports. This person must be able to motivate others, possess diplomatic and negotiation skills, and share in the vision of the organization’s growth.



This individual will serve as the staff liaison to ad-hoc committees in these styles, as assigned. Included will be helping organize U.S. international teams that compete in major events in these styles. The person will perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or the Director of Communications and Special Projects.



Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Professional experience in sports and event management. A bachelor’s degree in sports management, marketing, communications or related fields. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the developing styles, as well as Olympic wrestling is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficient skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and data base construction. Ability to travel for extended days is required. Graphic design, desktop publishing, internet and video skills preferred. Able to lift heavy objects over 75 pounds. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefit program.
