      With the recent growth of Gracie Humaita over the past year, Royler Gracie has brought on two more schools to add to his U.S. based competition team. Gracie Humaita in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is home to the original Gracie Humaita Academy where, for the most part, Rolker Gracie runs the day–to-day operations while Royler travels and resides in San Diego, CA with his family. Carlos & Helio opened the doors to Gracie Humaita in the mid 1900’s after the original closed its doors.

      Today, while waiting for my coach to arrive at the gym, I met Ross Macbaisey, President of Rapid Rehydration. My team mate & I had the opportunity to chat with him for a bit & hear about a new product called cut weight. Cut weight is a powder that you add to 16oz of water after having cut weight for a weight-in. After listening to what he had to say, he gave me and the others a couple sample packets.

 Over my 3 years of trying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I have bought about 12 different kimonos ranging from Gameness to Lucky. I must admit, I have been one of those who bought a kimono simply for the design & the name of the kimono. When I bought my 2nd kimono it was the very expensive Lovato Lucky kimono. This was one of those, bought for the design & name.

Samantha Faulhabe upsets University of Jiu Jitsu’s Kiri Lia in the finals of the open weight division to win a round trip ticket to Abu Dhabi to compete against the rest of the world’s top jiu jitsu athletes. Sam, as everyone calls her at Gracie San Diego, met Kiri on Saturday in the finals of their weight class. They fought a tough & highly technical match, during which Sam spent most of her time fighting to pass Kiri’s strong guard which in turn gave Kiri the 1 advantage point she needed to close out the division.

       This past weekend I had the great opportunity to compete at what is becoming one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, Abu Dhabi Pro Trials.

On February 17, 2011 MKimonos announced & welcomed their newest Brand Ambassador, Alexandre Ribeiro. Alexandre, better known to the Jiu Jitsu community as “Xande,” started training at the young age of 10 years old. Xande received his black belt from his brother Professor Saulo Ribeiro. From this point forward he became one of the most dominate Jiu Jitsu Black Belts in the world.
