December 16th, 2010 was an exciting day for Tim Sledd and his students at Small Axe Jiu Jitsu. Sledd announced that he and Andre Galvao have teamed up to form Galvao’s first American affiliate school. “It was an exciting announcement. Professor Galvao and I decided over a month ago that this affiliation needed to happen, but I wanted to give my students a Christmas gift by announcing it at our annual Christmas party,” Sledd said.
Mauricio Rizzada & Cadu Francis head instructors of Lava Jiu Jitsu in La Mesa, California, recently promoted 19 of their Jiu Jitsu members to the next level. Mauricio & Cadu both stand by the words “Belts are earned not given.” Both instructors felt this past weekend those word came into play that many of their students have earned the right to join the ranks of the next level.
BJJ World Champion and Strikeforce MMA Fighter Andre Galvao will be hosting a seminar at the state of the art Fight Science University in Westchester, NY. There will be two different seminar days. You can sign up for one day or both days.

Atos Bjj of San Diego lead by Andre Galvao is here to stay. Andre opened the doors of his Atos academy about a year ago & has grown every since. UFC owners Frank Fertitta, III, Lorenzo J. Wellington “Megaton” Dias & Gustavo Dantas have done it again by putting together this year’s 6th Annual Arizona International Open of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The AZSBJJF is proud to present, INSPIRE: An ALL Female Open Mat, hosted by Purple belt and 2010 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Kristina Barlaan. This event is specifically designed to allow female Jiu-Jitsu practioners to train with other girls, while also helping the growth of the female Jiu-Jitsu community in Arizona and inspiring Women to be Champions on the mat and in life.
