Gracie San Diego has teamed up with the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation to host an IBJJF Referee course at Gracie San Diego January 16th, 2011. This course is NOT ONLY for those interested in becoming a referee. If you compete, are thinking about competing, or are a jiu jitsu enthusiast, this course can benefit you too.

     For the first time in a while Royler & Brother Royce Gracie will be holding a super seminar at the Valente Brothers Gracie Miami Academy. Royler & Royce fifth and sixth sons of Grandmaster Helio Gracie are known throughout the fight world from the UFC to the Famous Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Tournaments. The two have been around the competition scene for generations, both having vast competition experiences in the past now use it to teach their own academies & around the world.

I recently had the chance to catch up with Johnny Faria head instructor of Gracie San Diego to get a sneak peek of the academy . Gracie San Diego is the head academy and first Gracie Humaiti academy in the United States. Gracie San Diego opened in October of last year, and has grow every since.

Just a little Highlight video of the kids at the Grappling X tournament today. All the kids were fighting are & fare. The next generation of Jiu Jitsu is going to be a tough one.

     Falcao waited patiently through the opening 3 minutes of the first round before exploding and giving Gerald Harris fight. Harris held on while till the bell rang as Falcao on his back locked a rear naked choke even holding a little longer after the bell had rang. Falcao controlled the second round going into the third round with the win already known.

   Bj after losing two straight fights to Champion Frankie Edger came out motivated tonight to fight Hughes. Bj looking like the Bj of the past stepped into the ring ready to fight. After two exchanges with Matt Hughes during the first 20 seconds of the round Bj threw a right hooked and landed it to the temple of Hughes putting him on his back.

     At UFC 123 Bj Penn will face Matt Hughes in the fight of legends. Both fighters have one win over each other. Penn & Hughes will fight tonight to finally settle the score after their last fight where Hughes had beaten Penn. Penn coming off a two fight losing streak to Lightweight Champion Frankie Edger, Penn is eager  to get back on track and make a run for the title. Hughes winning both his last two fights, beating Renzo Gracie and good friend & black belt Ricardo Almeida.

      Michella Almeida of Gracie San Diego was recently promoted to Blue Belt by Regis Lebre & Johnny Faria.  Michella started training Jiu Jitsu at the Gracie Academy in October of last year when the school first opened its doors.  After only a few months, Michella decided to take her new love to the competition level. Her first tournament was Gracie Nationals, where she rolled through her division and took home a gold medal.
