Dickie Martin is one of the UK’s most accomplished BJJ players, with victories in many of the UK’s premier events, as well as enjoying success in the BJJ Europeans event in Portugal.

Once again on March 4th, I found myself heading over the hills and entering the land of the White Rose, that of Yorkshire and more specifically, the town of Dewsbury, where, tucked away on an industrial estate, away from prying eyes, lies the MMA academy Caged Steel.

This is what I like about the grappling arts and the MMA game; making new friends with guys you’ve stepped into the ring or cage or stepped onto the mats for a grapple with, who for five minutes are your sworn enemy, turn into long lasting friends after the final bell rings out.

Darren and Helen Currie took over the Tuesday night class at Caged Steel in Dewsbury on February 12th, in what will now be a monthly occurrence, to deliver a two hour jiu jitsu master class tailor made for application in both no gi and MMA competition.

gym manager Neil Hall and owner Jamie Thwaites decided to hold another Open Mat to cope with the numbers and they were not to be disappointed.
