Gabe Ruediger is a long time friend and training partner. When I first met Gabe, I have to admit I didn`t like him too much, but I have he`s among my best friends now.
Dan Camarillo is definitely a familiar name to most long time fans of OntheMat.com. The older half of the infamous Camarillo brothers, Dan (the gregarious one) has been training in judo since he was four years, competing all over the United States and Japan when he was six.
The World Grappling Games has evolved into a full blown tournament circuit (now planning on holding matches all over the United States, but for the latest event they held right in their own back yard of Huntington Beach
This was it as solid match making showed top to bottom on this card, highlighted by impressive debuts, rematches between veterans and two title fights.
Ultimately, this card is going to be remembered for what happened outside of the ring as opposed to the show that occurred in it, which is a shame if not only for the damage this has caused the sport`s image in California, but because the show was going very well up until that point.
"No tournament too small" should be our motto around here at OntheMat, and while that's certainly true, holding a tournament fifteen minutes away from my home is certainly an easy way to attract my attention.
