LOS ANGELES, CA. — In a transaction signaling the dawn of a new era in the world’s fastest growing sport, world championship mixed martial arts (MMA) organization Strikeforce®, has acquired certain fighter contracts from ProElite, Inc, the parent company of former Strikeforce ® co-promoter, Elite Xtreme Combat (EliteXC).

Strikeforce® also acquired other specific assets of ProElite, including a library of EliteXC events, which were distributed live on either CBS or Showtime Networks.

SAN JOSE, CA—Lightweight (155 lb. limit) fan favorite and seven-time UFC veteran, Jorge Gurgel (12-5), has signed an exclusive agreement to compete for world championship mixed martial arts (MMA) fight promotion, Strikeforce.

“I am excited. To me, this is like a new start. I’m coming in fresh. I’m re-motivated and excited to mix things up in Strikeforce,” said the 31-year-old Gurgel, a native of Brazil, who relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio a decade ago.

Strikeforce “Greatest Knockouts” Premieres On NBC Saturday

SAN JOSE, Calif. —A special 30 minute episode featuring a collection of the 10 greatest knockouts in Strikeforce mixed martial arts (MMA) history will premiere on NBC Saturday night.

The all-new “Strikeforce on NBC” episode will showcase the handiwork of some of Strikeforce’s most lethal competitors, including reigning world middleweight (185 lb. limit) champion, Cung Le; two-time world MMA champion, Frank Shamrock; and superstars Kazuo “The Grabaka Hitman” Misaki and Duane “Bang” Ludwig.

OTM will be there with a live play by play and fighter reactions and interviews!

Smith and Martin Ready To Slug It Out At “Destruction”

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A showdown between hard hitting middleweights (185 lb. limit) Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (13-5) and Terry Martin (18-5) has been added to Strikeforce “Destruction,” the star-studded mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card that will unfold at San Jose’s HP Pavilion on Friday, November 21st.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A broken toe will sideline Strikeforce World Lightweight (155 lb. limit) Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson from his scheduled title defense against Yves Edwards (34-14-1) in the main event of Strikeforce “Destruction” at San Jose’s HP Pavilion on Friday, November 21st. World Muay Thai champion and mixed martial arts (MMA) knockout artist, Duane “Bang” Ludwig (17-8), will step up to face Edwards in the cage at a catch weight of 164 lbs.

AN JOSE, Calif. — Kim Couture, wife of mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Randy “The Natural” Couture, will make her Strikeforce MMA cage fighting debut against Lina Kvokov in a 130 lb. limit contest at San Jose’s HP Pavilion on Friday, November 21st.
The 32-year-old Couture recently reaffirmed her commitment to becoming a pioneer of women’s MMA competition by adding none other than K-1 superstar and three-time world kickboxing champion, Ray “Sugarfoot” Sefo, to her stable of elite trainers.
