The SF Open this past Sunday was a killer event and I'm really glad to have been a part of it even though I didn't quite achieve the results I had been expecting to.

Yesterday I got the chance to get a tune up before this weekend's tournament with multiple time black belt world champion Caio Terra. Also in attendance were tough black belts and good friends Augusto Queixinho, Samir Chantre, and Flavio Meier. The training session was killer and I've already felt my game get tighter from training with these high level athletes.

I had the pleasure this past weekend of traveling down to Los Angeles to watch the Pan Kids tournament at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The level of Jiu-Jitsu displayed by these children always amazes me. I didn't even start Jiu-Jitsu until I was ten years old and some of these kids are younger than that and have games that make them look like little purple belts. Our team did really well earning the top spot in the mighty might division and taking home the third place trophy for the Pee Wees.

This is Nathan Mendelsohn, third degree brown belt from Claudio Franca BJJ and I'd like to invite you to follow me along for what should be a really exciting 2012 Competition Season!! I'm back and really excited for this year and I'll be posting here all year long with stories, techniques and updates on all my travels and experiences competing around the U.S. and the World!!
 

The 2011 US Open this past weekend was an awesome event, even though I wasn't able to secure the result I had hoped for.
 
I ended up winning my first fight 5 to 0 and losing my second fight 4 to 2 for a bronze medal. I then went on to fight the open division with a similar result of winning my first match and losing my second.

Since I've been back from Brazil I've been working hard to heal up from the injuries I brought back with me as well as get ready for this weekend's US Open!

This past week was my last in Brazil before coming back to the states and I spent it with my good friend, black belt Italo Lins of GFTEAM, and his family in the neighborhood of Caxias near the international airport. Italo Lins had just arrived in Brazil after spending six months in the United States, two of which he spent at my house in Santa Cruz. He competed various tournaments while in the US and came back with many new titles, including Champion of the recent Las Vegas Open.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of competing in the FJJD Rio Copa Carlson Gracie, along with a lot of friends from GFTEAM.
