While many sports fanatics in the San Francisco Bay Area were at home or at their local bars rooting for the San Francisco 49ers against the NY Giants in the NFL’s NFC Championship game, just an hour drive from the city, competitors from dozens of Bay Area and west coast teams were donning gis. The teams were ready to begin the 2012 competition season by putting their jiu-jitsu skills to the test.

“ I feel like Dr. Paul woke me up from a coma. When I first heard him speak in 2007, I was shocked. I started doing my own research. What I found blew me away. I have been keeping up with politics, foreign policy and the libertarian philosophy ever since”

The final qualifying event for the 2012 Abu Dhabi WPJJ has been scheduled to take place March 10 and 11 in San Diego, California. Point Loma High School gymnasium, the very venue where the 2011 tryouts were held, is the chosen venue.

The competition-Jiu-Jitsu calendar is taking a well-deserved recess after the thrilling year of 2011.

But that doesn't mean the IBJJF is slacking off; the sport's governing body took it upon itself to release the spanking new Jiu-Jitsu Rule Book before the turn of the year.

Nearly two years in the making, the rules underwent a complete overhaul, gaining photos, charts and illustrations that elucidate all the more clearly the guidelines to which competitors and event promoters alike will be expected to adhere.
