There has been a lot of drama lately both on and off the mat due to some new rules set by the IBJJF. The understanding of the rules in BJJ has always been a riddle for me. After years of competing both in the US and in Brazil I never really understood them other than what Ralph Gracie told me in my first 3 tournaments at white belt. "If you tap the guy you win, if you don't you don't win." That was Ralph's advice long ago. Just play your game he told me. Problem was that if you didn't tap the guy you didn't know if you won or not till the referee raised raised an arm.

Joe Hurst's Bud Cup is back as many of you know this is one of our all time favorite tournaments to go to and to compete in. This event always draws many of the best grapplers from the east coast and mid west. Last year was a total blast and this year looks to be better than ever!

Here is a quick note from Joe!

As some of you saw at StrikeForce I got my nose cut off my face.  Boy did that hurt a lot more than i thought i would. Turns out not only had I broke my nose many many times, including once in Rio, i had also broken or fractured my pallet too.  The only time i can think that might have happened was when i was thrown through the window of a car that was hit by a van.

So the doctor fixed my dual deviated septum and was able to take some cartilage and restructure my nose and nostrils.  I now have two pins in my nose holding it in place.

Now that my back has started to heal up, I have decided to reward myself with a really vain nose job. My whole life I have not liked my nose, since I was a freshman in high school and the girl I liked a lot then mad fun of my nose. I have been really insecure about it ever since.

So I am treating myself to a new nose. I went to the nose doctor and he gave me a book of noses to look at to pick from. The book had a ton of different noses in it and he told me I could pick any nose I wanted out.

We have a couple friends on the show this time and I don't know all the details, but I hear there is going to be one hell of a fight on the show.  We are going to have our brands on the show with our boys and girl representing!
