A big congratulaions to new Yellow Belt Evan Anderson a new addition to the Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene! Evan has been training BJJ for longer than most kids his age have even heard of the martial arts. At 13 years old, Evan trains with the Adult Fundamentals Class 2x a week and has been a hard working, consistent member. Keep up the good work and remember, a Black Belt is a White Belt that never gave up!

Here is a fun sweep. The spider guard is not as popular as it was 10-15 years ago. Some say that it is an outdated guard because it is so easy to pass. It is not as competitive as some other sport guard variations but because of the lack of teaching it and because it is not as popular anymore, it can be effective just because newer opponents are not used to seeing it. Because of it's simplicity to learn, it is still good for newer practitioners that want to compete in sport BJJ.

Day 2 of Self-Defense in Indianapolis

Today is Day 2 of Indianapolis Self-Defense taught at Center Grove Middle School! Last week we had a great group of kids. Today we will review the the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu based self defense techniques that we did last week and I will present some new content. This is a great opportunity for kids to get exposure to BJJ for the first time. Many of them last week were surprised on how much they were able to do on their first day. We even had 3 teachers from the school that were participating.

Thursday Night Competition Indianapolis BJJ Class

We changed the scheduled and listened. Now every Thursday night from 7:30pm to 9pm we will have a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Competition class. This class will be geared towards sport jiu jitsu and points competitions. We will spar with time limits and keep track of points. We will cover different sport strategies and train with intensity. We will also use this time to work on no gi BJJ and no gi competition.
