LOS ANGELES, California — Just in case you missed any of the news, the ninth annual OTM Awards and its 16 winners were announced each day last week! These awards were given to the individuals responsible for the most outstanding performances in the sports of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Submission Grappling (No-Gi), and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) over the course of the 2011 calendar year. The recap of the OTM Awards announcements from last week are as follows:

LOS ANGELES, California — The ninth annual OTM Awards will be announced each day next week, starting on Monday, January 9th and ending on Friday, January 13th. We at OTM are very proud to say that we started these awards nearly a decade ago and have watched some of these athletes develop into household names in the sports of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Submission Grappling (No-Gi), and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). To celebrate the growth of these sports, we have added more categories this year and we will be awarding people in different 16 categories in all 3 sports.

Antelope Valley Open (Gi / NO-GI) Palmdale CA

Highland High School Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club is hosting their 3rd open tournament on April 16th.

This year they are adding Gi divisions up to Purple.

Registration is 15 bucks or 25 at the door. You can register at So Cal Fight Factory in Palmdale and weigh in on the Friday before the tournament.

Rigan Machado Seminar, November 13th San Francisco, CA

Rigan Machado is coming to the Bay Area to teach a no-gi jiu jitsu seminar! Rigan Machado is a legend in the sport, 8th degree black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr., mundial champion and ADCC veteran. He was the best competitor of his time, in my opinion. He will be conducting a seminar at 10th Planet San Francisco on November 13th. His seminar is incredibly priced, $75 if registered before Nov. 8th, $100 if registered after. That is a steal considering who is teaching the seminar.

Elia and Ben were sparring after class at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu San Francisco and Denny decided the winner would get his purple belt. I missed the first 2 minutes of the match as I tried to find my camera. Denny ended up promoting both and as per usual talks about the students, their training and their path from their previous belt to the the belt being awarded. Congratulations to both of our newest, and well deserved, purple belts.
