Oklahoma Day 3: Training and Tornados

Posted 03-03-2008 at 07:56 AM by Gumby
Oklahoma Day 3: Most exciting day yet:

Sunday turned out to be the most exciting day out here yet. After sleeping well in, Rafael, Xande and I went to the academy for a little Sunday training. The launching of the new academy made for a lot of momentum for everyone apparently, as the open mat was simply packed with students today. A blue belt and a green belt first asked me to roll when I got there looking for some pointers, which I was happy to give, and then I worked my way through...

Oklahoma Day 2 plus UFC thoughts

Posted 03-02-2008 at 08:52 AM by Gumby
The Grand Opening went at Lovato's went well. During the Xande seminar, there well well over 60 people on the mat, and plenty more in the surroundng area just watching and enjoying the grand opening.

Xande's seminar was really good. Nothing terribly fancy about what he showed, but the concepts he presented and the way he presented it provided new insights for both Rafael and myself and it should show big improvemets in both of our games. Really, I can't give a better praise than that,...

Day 1: Getting to Oklahoma

Posted 02-29-2008 at 12:03 PM by Gumby
Waking up at 4:00 AM is never fun for me, and although I occasionally technically do it on a road trip (especially when I visit the east coast, which is three hours ahead of my native California), there is something about having to set your alarm in your own bed that makes it that much more painful. Of course, my good friend Mike, who is goodly enough to give me a ride to the airport at this ungodly hour, does this on a regular basis softens the blow a bit, and when I get to the airport I am quickly...

Great Article on some friends

You probably haven't seen this because the audience intersection between Kung Fu Illustrated and OTM is fairly narrow (I think). This article is initially about Arash Dibazar, but talks a lot about Sandro "Batata" Santiago.

Article in Kung Fu Magazine

This article pretty much sums up what I admire about Arash, he truly is a student of the game, and although he has a wealth of martial...

Thoughts on The Ultimate Fighter 6 Episode 12

Posted 12-06-2007 at 07:51 AM by Gumby
Before I got into the Ultimate Fighter 6 this season, I briefly caught some spoilers of who was going to be in the finals. Happily, they turned out to be wrong, so I was mildly surprised when I watched episode 12 last night.

In the spoiler I heard, it didn't mention Mac Danzig as being in the finals, which quite frankly shocked me. Every season there is one or two participants who probably deserve a shot in the UFC without the benefit of the reality show, and this season it was definitely...
