Long Beach Fight Night

    Tue, 2010-07-20 13:47 — Christopher Landeros

Long Beach, Ca – Harold “The Crippler” Lucambio would capture his first win in over two years as he would overwhelm fellow Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Thomas Kenny, Sunday night at Long Beach City College.

For most of the fight Lucambio (4-6) would control his opponent using an array of positions on the mat, wherever Kenny (14-5) would move Lucambio would be on him transitioning to either the mount or back mount looking for the finish. Kenny’s only offense really came early in the second as he would be aggressive and lock up the Pedro Sauer brown belt in a guillotine choke and attempt to finish him from the guard. The Crippler though would be patient and work his head out and pass Kenny’s guard before taking his back and reining down some vicious punches that would give Kenny no other choice but to tap.

In the co main event Subfighter’s Tyler “Taz” Weathers would use his size and wrestling ability to grind out a decision victory over Adrenaline Fight Club fighter Adam Rothweiler.

From the sound of the opening bell Weathers (6-5) would be relentless with his takedowns, using punches to set up his double leg takedown, from the top position though he could do little against Rothweiler (4-2) who would use his guard to effectively control him from the bottom. For three rounds this is the battle both would engage in as both would neither give nor take an inch, in the end though it would be Weathers takedowns and top position that would sway the judges in his favor.

In an unfortunate turn of events Fight Night veteran Manny “Bam Bam” Lara (3-0) would dislocate his knee during a scramble and drop a TKO loss due to injury to new comer Kosetatino Tali Sinoti.

In at catch weight bout of 150lbs Millennia MMA fighter Chris Cully (6-6) would squeak by Team Oyama fighter Marin “Achilles” Bautista (6-8) using aggression and clinch work to score a split decision victory.

On the card that night FistSeries veteran Thor “TNT” Skancke (1-4) would capture his first win since February of 2008 as he would use his punches, takedowns and ground and pound to win a unanimous decision victory over Team Diamond fighter Mike “All American” Frazier (0-1).

In heavyweight action Danny “Pride of Samoa” Lockhart (0-1) would use his aggression, counter punches and clinch work to capture a unanimous decision Giovanni “Bam Bam” Sarran (2-1).

In another catch weight bout at 180lbs CSW/ Gracie Barra team fighter Ozzie Avalos (1-1) would use his takedowns and positional control to finish Frank “The Strength” Pizzirulli (1-4) via rear naked choke in less then one round of action.

Finally on the card new comer Jon Levy would outwork Subfighter’s Alfredo Borrego (0-1) using punches and ground work that would sway the judges to award him a unanimous decision victory.
