Long Beach, Ca – Pinnacle Jiu Jitsu fighter Reuben Duran would continue to rise up the bantamweight ranks by defeating wrestling stand out Maurice Eazel via guillotine choke Sunday night at Long Beach City College.
As the bell would sound both fighters would come out feeling out the distance, Eazel (7-11) would seem to be looking for the shot and Duran (5-2-1) would ready to counter. Surprisingly Eazel would first land a hard right hand before changing levels and shooting in for the takedown, Duran though would shake off the punch and time the shot and sink in a tight guillotine choke that would eventually force the wrestler to pass out giving Duran the win.
In the co main event that night Fist Series veteran Chris Saunders would submit Gladiator Challenge veteran Nick Reale.
Coming out aggressive Reale (7-2) would open up with a sidekick only to be taken down by Saunders (3-1) less then ten seconds into the match. From that point it would be all Saunders as he would establish the top position and wait for Reale to scramble before locking up a guillotine choke that would give Reale no other option but to tap out.
Still shaking off some ring rust since his last outing in the cage last year Chris Cully would squeak by Martial Art Innovations fighter Juan Rivas using movement and counter strikes that would award him a decision victory.
From the get go Rivas (3-3) would push Cully (4-6) on the feet with forward movement and hand combinations but the seasoned Cully would counter the aggression with circular movement and punches of his own. In the clinch both would score knees but neither could take full advantage while inside throughout the fight. That would change in the last thirty seconds of the fight as Cully would land secure the top position and land a barrage of punches off of a failed takedown by Rivas. This last ditch effort is all the judges needed as they would award Cully the split decision victory.
In the only women’s match of the night Team Oyama’s Carla Esparza (1-0) would submit Karina Hallinan (1-1) via rear naked choke in less then two rounds of action.
In a catch weight bout at 150lbs Subfighter’s Isaac Gutierrez (3-1) would knock out De La O Jiu Jitsu fighter Scott Brommage (3-5) late in round two using some vicious ground and pound.
In featherweight action Adrenaline Fight Club’s Adam Rothweiler (3-2) would submit Subfighter Laguna Hills fighter Tyler Aimer (1-1) via armbar late in round two after being dominated for nearly the entire fight.
In a come from behind victory Bakersfield BJJ fighter Ray Cervera (3-1) would submit Thor Skancke (1-3) via a short choke before almost being stopped with strikes early in the fight.
In another catch weight bout at 150lbs Kenny Quach (1-1) fighting out of the Ma Du Academy would overwhelm new comer Jerad Jurgensmier with strikes from the mount position.
Finally on the card Team Infaction’s Kyle Bolt (0-1) would score a submission victory over new comer and Subfighter team member Alfredo Borrego, using his submission skills off his back Bolt would shoot for an arm an force the tap in less then one round of action.
