Half Guard Help

    Wed, 2006-09-06 13:06 — shrek_vt

I was wondering if anybody has some thoughts, or vids or other demonstrations of techniques, about working half-guard from the bottom. It's a position I find myself in often and I've heard there is a lot out there but I am a beginner. To date the most I can do is stall and wait for the guy on top to tire, then work back to guard or take his back if its open. I'm mostly looking for some good sweeps or general advice, i.e. good ways to keep them off balance, what to look for, maybe a general sub from the bottom (like a kimura or americana). but any and all advise would be welcomed. Thanks for the help!

Turn into him. you can work a Kimura but at least turn towards your opponent and at least go back to guard. Do not lay flat on your back or you will get subbed.

Gordo has a good DVD on 1/2 guard.
