2 Belts???

    Wed, 2006-10-25 22:41 — Gerald Rhoades

Ive seen in some of the video clips that some guys wear say their blue belt or purple, or brown, etc. and besides that they also wear a second one..i think usualy its yellow alternating with green...whats up with that??

No. It's not a new custom. They've long done that in Judo competions and considering how widely Judo is practiced in Brazil and amongst BJJ players that is where they likely adopted it.

I would much rather just use the ankle bracelet style myself. Another question
though: If you are both the same level belt wise, why not just take yours off for the match and wear the representative country belt that you are, U.S.,Brazil, Japan etc.? Is this seen as disrespectful to your school, master or yourself even I guess?

Personally I find it a disadvatage to have to wear both.

I feel the same way, but I think it comes from superstition than it really having a significant effect on my performance.

    hello,

thanks to gumby for the info. just wondering, has the use of two belts always been practiced? is it a new custom?

    thanks.

I like the arm bands and the wrist bands better but at the tournament back in the spring, they used the red belts over the belt color you were.

yeah it seems to me that 2 belts might be a little bothersome...plus sometimes the belts end up coming off anyway...i think the ankle thing sounds better....
