Congrats on the promotion. I am also glad to see your school is hard on giving promotions (1 year 7 months). When you get your black belt it will mean alot from them. Keep up the good work.
Thank You very much, it does mean alot to me.
Congrats,
I was going to get my second stripe and my instructor couldn't get a piece of tape off of a three stripe belt to give me so he threw the belt at me and said just to take it. The stripe that he was picking at eventually fell off so I got the sticky tape promotion/demotion.
My instructor doesn't hold fast to stripes and guys have gone to blue from only one stripe so after seeing how he does it I don't worry so much about them (except that first one :)).
LOL, yeah my old club that i originally started at, they didnt do stripes on a regular basis. Im really not sure how they did it.
Well I never have had a single stripe... Hehe! I've always considered that the stripes are more to motivate people constatly. You know, some people need countinous encouragement, so this way they get a stripe ever 3-6 months and they have a clear goal that way.
At the places I've trained it's mostly been more or less so that you are a white belt until you have proven yourself worthy of the blue one. This is most easily done by competing and taking home a medal. But some people don't have to opportunity to compete so they will just have to prove that they can hang with the blue belts (harder to prove yourself that way if you ask me...). Achieving purple belt will be even harder to achieve without competing, but the same thing applies here aswell.
(Funny thing was that they were playing the white stripes on radio while i wrote this :) )
Yes, I do believe they are a encouragement issues. they are encouraging to me.
Yeah, I guess it works then :) As I've never tested that system I don't have a clue. I just try to motivate myself by competing (and losing). Every time I beat someone I've lost to in previous competitions I get a great feeling and that encourages me (clear signs of improvment).
Well I have just been informed that I will be recieving my Blue Belt from Helio Soneca here in the next couple of weeks.
Congrats again :) Too bad they told you though, it's much cooler when you don't have a clue and all of a sudden all the higher belts are punishing you :D You're exhausted and sore and they just keep coming at you... :p
i know , today was the first day back since they told me and i was punished the whole class.
Haha, that is so funny! I can picture it all in my head... :D
as of right now im not sure if i will receive the blue next week cause now i have my shoulder in a sling and docs orders to stay off the mat for 3 weeks, cause i took a fall in judo tuesday night and sprained the shoulder and barely seperated the joint
That's too bad man. Be sure to take care of that shoulder before returning to the mat. I did that once, it was dislocated briefly and sore as hell. I returned to the mat after a week. Whent home early from training as it got sore immediatley when we started sparring, came back a week later and same thing all over again. It took 6 weeks for it to get relativley normal again. I learned a good lesson. If the shoulder isn't 100% after 3 weeks, take another week off just to make sure. Better to be safe than sorry, it's hard to stay that long off the mat, I know!
Thanks Yeah Im on the 800mg Ibuprofen and that seems to be working great.
Congrats!
Just a question, how many times per week do you train? Just checking if it's due to that reason you've waited so long or that they just won't give belts very easily (this is how every academy should be!!). It feels alot better when you know you really are worth the stripe/belt doesn't it :)?
I've actully never trained in any Alliance school so I have no idea what they require from one in order to achieve a stripe... Anyone wanna collaborate?
Congrats!!! I dont train at a very promotion happy school either, so I was pretty excited when I got my stripes! Congrats again!
i greatly appreciate the kind words. Thank You
I train in the GI-2 times a week, NO-GI probably once a week, and JUDO- 2 times a week
Tues/Thurs AM BJJ-GI------Tues/Thurs PM JUDO------Weds PM NO-GI
Also i do roll at my buddys condo a couple of nights a week, we bought enough mats to cover the entire basement floor.
Hehe, alright! I was curious if you were one of those people that "trained" 19 months. But in reality they train some time twice a week, then they won't show up for a while, then they show up a few times etc. Then someone that has trained their ass off 5 times a week get their blue belt after a year they start complaining about how long they have trained etc. And 3-4 years into their "career" they will be granted their blue belt just because the trainer can't stand their whining (but they are still getting tapped by the white belts but making up stupid excuses etc) :D
It's really cool if you have mats at your friends place, I'd love to have a friend who is intrested in bjj/sw and owns a house and mats. You could try out all kinds of cool techniques there.
No, not me. I train a consistent 2times a week in BJJ and 2 times a week in Judo.
As for my buddy's house. I bought enough mats to make a 10x10ft square to roll. Then he bought more so now we have almost the whole basement covered to roll. Most of my buddies train in Judo and BJJ. so we always have someone to roll with.
Congratulations cshudson! I can't wait to get my first stripe! LOL
