Just wondering which guard to you like to work. Some people like the closed guard, or spider guard, or x-guard. Just wondering which is your favorite and why?

half gaurd. i love the sweeps, and people rarely see the submissions coming.
I'll post pix when I perfect it. Its really intersting, with two varations. Oh and you can do a double armbar. I wanna say its more of a transition, but I end up in it from closed or rubber guard. I think some day we will have the "underdog guard" lol :P
sort of an underguard then? or would that be an under guard dog? hahahaha. it sounds cool. yes. post pics when you get it.
for body type, butterfly guard seems to work best. x guard happens more by accident than by design.
I like to mess around with a little rubber and butterfly-but I have had success with a super tight closed guard too.
I have heard that it's considered bad form to squeeze until someone taps-what do you think?
Depends on how hard you are rolling. If we are just going light and you start to squeeze i may just tap out of dicomfort and move on. I wouldn't consider that productive for either of us really. But, if we are roling hard and your squeeze is enough to make me legitly tap then go for it. I've never needed to tap from something like that, but have seen others give in. also there is a video of a closed gaurd variant causing a guy to vomit, so i guess it can happen

Most of the time if you just squeeze your legs together you will not get a submission. In the video the moved used by the guy on the bottom is a good hold. When you pull on the lower back and squeeze your legs while pushing up with your legs is a very painful submission. I have seen it break someones ribs before.
sadly there is just no way i could pull of that position. So much of bjj is for the lanky. . . :/
if your rolling with people who tap out from you squeezing them your either rolling with someone who is either- terrible ,five, or an extreme noob that you just made uncomfortable..or your the hulk which is a possibility lol later
if im rolling with people at my school i dont think it would be cool to be pulling that kind of stuff anyway, i guess in a tournament you could juice up the squeezing just to make him uncomfortable, but not in class..
ya its definately would not be a good way to make friends where u train, and for me when somone does stuff like that to me i make them not want to be shitty with me again.
rubber guard right now...trying to learn the system.....i would love to have a great half guard though..

im flexable, so stuff thats wierd works good for me....we came up with this badass pretzel guard that ive been rocking for the past few months.

I usually will go to the close guard if I end up on my back. I prefer to be on top if possible. I then look for a submission or a sweep.
