Alberto Crane Feb. 16-17 / Seattle, WA.

    Tue, 2008-01-08 10:54 — three harmonies

One of the best BJJ fighters in the world (was the second American to win the BB division at the Mundial's, first being BJ Penn!) will pay a visit to Seattle, WA. February 16-17th, 2008 for his first time!

I will have a flyer and more details ready within a week or so, but wanted to give everyone a heads up of this wonderful opportunity to train with one of the best grapplers in the world! Alberto is an amazing fighter, excellent teacher who breaks down the art in an easy to understand format, and all around super nice guy.
Alberto will be covering two positions that he is known for: High Mount (some call a 'S' mount), and Cross Guard. Grapplers know that these are his specialties and yet Alberto continues to score with his proven techniques over and over again!

Times are yet to be arranged.
Location will be available at time of registration.
    $55 for one day
    $95 for both days

I will be limiting space for this event so sign up early!!

To register, or for further questions contact:

Cross guard and crucifix positions, then rolled with everyone. Nothing too fancy, just solid technique and positional strategies. If you have ever seen him fight you have seen his cross guard work.

    hello,

ah. albertocrane has/had an instructor in bellingham. many will say "seattle" which could mean anything from everett to ft. lewis. thought it possible you used "seattle" for geographic familiarity.

much in the same way that "los angeles" seems to encompass everything from santa monica to pasadena to anaheim to torrance.

    thanks

Sorry for any confusion, but the seminar will be in north Seattle proper.
I known his strength and conditioning coach is Sonnon who lives in Bellingham, but this is totally a venture unto myself and Brian Johnson, my BJJ coach, and former student of Alberto's.
    Hope you can make it!

Brian Johnson nwjja.com taught Saturday classes for a bit at ANdy's place. Brian is a BB under David Meyer and John Will. Just got his first degree.
Back when Brian was travelling to NM to train with Alberto, Crane awarded him his brown belt.

    About Alberto Crane:

Born in New Mexico, Alberto fell in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu just after high school and dedicated his life to training and competing in the world of BJJ. Moving to Brazil to get the most intense training he could find, Alberto was just the second American to win the World Championships at the Black Belt level in 2002! A student of the legendary “Draculino” Magalhaes, Alberto has not only taught over 400 students at his academies in New Mexico, but has also fought for the Lightweight King of the Cage title 8 times with no taste of defeat. Alberto has dedicated himself to being the best fighter he can be and is now pursuing the same belt in a little organization called the UFC!

...but has also fought for the Lightweight King of the Cage title 8 times with no taste of defeat.

If I remember correctly, he only fought for the Lightweight KOTC title once. He wasn't the champion 8 times. After he got handed the belt he "retired" to concentrate on his Academy. He did fight once more for KOTC about a year or so later, but I don't think it was for the title. He had 8 total wins before he lost for the first time in the UFC.

Nothing against Alberto... props to him for getting to the UFC.

Well, I apologize if my promo bio bit is worded strangely, but for Chirst's sake you arguing semantics here. Alberto's record was 8-0 in KOTC. He was undefeated in MMA during his reign, and yes he was just dealt his first MMA loss to Huerta a couple months back. So overall he is 8-1.

    hello,

just curious. why? there is a thread somewhere around here "anyone else bored with mma?"

would this describe you? lack of interest?

is it philosophical opposition? jimarvanitis runs a pankration school in new england and doesn't support his students as fighters. if they want to, they can, he just won't do it. he can't justify showing up with a student to either beat someont up or get beat up?

are you in either of these situations?

    "let thecomish be heard...."

not anymore. rolled with brianjohnson a few times back then. ran across him by accident (literally just walking down greenwood and saw a new school opened). checked it out... and BAM!!! jiujitsu!! he was a good guy. very helpful. he was also a bit of a surprise due to his age (or lack of it). any black belts met at that time tended to be older guys. it was a refreshing change!!!

Yeah he is young in the relative sense (for an American anyways). But skilled as a mofo, and hands down one of the best teachers I have ever come across in 16 years of martial arts study!

    hello,

nah. living in southern california. still visit seattle occasionally. was up there a few months ago. didn't stay long though. took some friends to japan. seattle has changed a bit (not much). looks like several areas have been gentrified. guess that is good. did roll with anyone though. only there for about a day. next time will be there a few weeks. maybe in the fall.

agreed about brianjohnson. he looked like a kid, but there was no doubting his skill. he had a way of answering questions (even fairly complex issues) with minimal words. you know some guys take 20 minutes to answer semi-simple questions? not him. to the point, but enthusiastic. we could use more like him, neh?
