thanks Bevois for the input on the movie. I will wait for it to come out on DVD. I wish I could go and watch it and be able to say I am watching it for OTM and not becase I want to see the movie. :o
On a good note it sounds like it may do what the Karate Kid did years ago and is to get people into our sport. As much as I do not want a bunch of Yahoos in the gym, if it was not for the popularity of the sport then there would not be so many fights and nothing like OTM. We must take the good with the bad as in all sports.
"Back Down" from seeing this movie
I saw it Sunday night. Quick verdict: Don't waste your money; wait for the movie to come out on DVD. It's basically "Karate Kid" remade - badly - with MMA replacing karate. There was some BJJ in the movie, but most of it (apart from a "helicopter arm bar" that the main character almost pulls off in the final fight) was pretty basic. One laughable moment: About halfway through the movie, when the main character was several months into his training, his instructor shows him the upa escape from the mount, as if it was a new move.
Once again: Save your $10.
Ross.
Where can I get Combat Sports MMA gloves? Oh who cares when I can get some Built to Fight MMA gloves.
By the way I have some Comabt Sports MMA gloves that I got from your local OTM shop. :D
LOL!! I love the trailer!
I hate that GJJ/BJJ and MMA ruined me on watching movies with flying right crosses and a lot of other crap you'd have trouble connecting on a drunk with! LOL!! Kind of like the old cowboy shows where the hero shoots the gun out of the bad guy's hand. It breaks your heart to find out it don't go down like that. However, if you put it in perspective that this is just entertainment and fun & laughs, then I'll like it on DVD! Some of the ladies are to die for!
Hawk
I agree, this movie is going to blow but your probably right it might do good because of all the people who are infatuated with MMA. And that bag flying across the room very nice touch.
looks really really bad. its like 'you got served' without the hip dance moves.
i think an mma movie wouldnt be so bad if they did it like a copy of rocky 1 but with mma. have more time devoted to the struggle of the main character and the training. less time on enemies and shit like that. show the sport for what it is. show the respect most MMA fighters and people who are involved in martial arts have for each other. rather than highschool drama bullshit.
Sweep the leg. Mister Miyagi wax off.
hello,
ran across a group of teens that were reenacting the trailer. it was pretty funny! really bad actors!
however, they take judo and doing the moves in the clip seemed fun for them. it was interesting watching them dissect the clip moves and find solutions to the situations presented.
funny thing, these 14 year olds had no idea what "karate kid" is!
hahahahahahahahahaha!!
thanks
i hate these piece of shit type movies
it's not that i dont want to see an MMA movie it's more like i already know how much i will cringe and the too cool so tough lines spouted by the fags in this movie, also i dout there will be one halfway unatractive or uncool person in the entire movie as this is more like a commercial for acrocombie and fitch rather than a true to life fight movie. In fact i don't even have to watch it because i can tell you exactly how it begins peaks and ends from the trailer alone..... so yeah, fuck off with this piece of crap whorish PR movie.:)
hello,
owlscowlz, you really really need to quit beating around the bush and tell us what you REALLY think of this fine cinematic experience!!!!
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
thanks
hello,
yep. we've all been there..... we subject ourselves to a movie we KNOW will suck, just because we saw ONE cool little thing in a trailer. 2 hours of "aargh" just to be able to say "oh. THAT'S what that was..."
hahahahahahahahaha!!!
still, can't help but wonder two things. first, will this stimulate even greater mainstream interest in mma/jiujitsu/muaythai and second, what kind of people will this attract to the sports?
what do you think?
thanks
lol i wondered that myself it's like hey douchebag you need to grab that leg so he doesnt lift you up like that gosh didn't the big black guy already tell you that?
@ lol stop beating around the bush and tell us what you think of this movie lololol
hello,
thought you might appreciate that!
thanks
There is no excuse for an movie with a 90120 feel. On the "up" side, I love the kicks that send the heavy bags flying across the room.
hello,
smokey the bear says "only you can prevent 90210..."
hahahahahaha!!!
thanks
Funny thing is that I saw the advertisement about 5 minutes after my post. It does look cheesey but with the popularity of MMA we can expect to have movies like this coming out.
I never heard of it. If you have a link to the trailer then post it.
hello,
not yet. saw it on tv. will try to find a link though. there must be one somewhere.
thanks
