From my experience in the advance div. it's rare to see such injuries. We all know what hold's can cause injury and pain and no pain vis versa etc. So it‘s not really smart to play brave and fight certain holds. Unfortunately in the beginner div’s many competitors are too hyped and unaware due to inexperience and you tend to see those injuries more at that level.

ya i know that beginners hurt one another more often but this guy was a blue belt and had been training for three years so i dont know what was up... maybe he thought he couldnt get hurt with a straight ankle lock to badd for him he was wrong...

well yes, I remember a few matches where I tore or popped something on my opponents limbs.

grapple girl= ankle lock, i saw the tendons popping or tearing.. it was scary!

Leka= ine one match (below) an inverted heel hook, in another match a figure 4 toe-hold and knee bar.. I heard a crrrrrunch on her knee.. it wasn't a sudden pop.. it was a tear-like sound and lasted like a couple seconds.. as if someone was ripping a piece of cloth... but under her skin (hard to explain)

finally- cathy mccue, that's actually on the Grappling Girl's video. Her knee just popped really loud frm an inverted heel hook.. my reaction was hilarious...

there was this one match that I was reffing. It was Andre Galvao's girlfriend and a Rodrigo Medeiros girl. The Rodrido M's girl had Miss Galvao in the closed guard and began applying pressure to a kimura. Ms. Glavao's arm snapped right in front of my face.. her ar just flopped forward in the same direction the pressure was being applied.. it was the goriest thing I've ever seen.....

Thanks for that Gazzy, I didn't know about the Grappling Girl's video so I just bought it for my girls. With a few other vids I noticed while in the store.

gazzy the weird ripping crunching thing happened to the guys ankle i hurt too...i was pressuring into the lock then it just popped then weird ripping crunching sound...it was sick as hell...ive always heard people say that they wouldnt tap for a straight ankle lock because you cant really get injured it just hurts, but aparently its possible to injure a foot with a straight ankle lock...but i am 230 and strong and it took all my force... i still cant beleive he didnt tap until it broke

I actually dislocated Sean Flannery's thumb trying to get hand control during a match a couple years back. They popped it back in and tapped it up and we continued. Here is a nice pic of our battle...special thanks to www.AliciaPhotos.com
