Leonard Garcia is arrested in Texas on drug trafficking charges

    Fri, 2008-03-28 14:00 — Bevois

Top ranked featherweight Leonard Garcia was one of 13 members of an alleged drug trafficking ring arrested Tuesday in Lubbock, Texas, according to a report by local NBC news affiliate KCBD.

The arrests are the product of a 4-year investigation into a cocaine ring that reportedly spans from Lubbock to El Paso.

The U.S. District Attorney's Office revealed that the operation seized approximately two kilograms of cocaine in addition to drug trafficking paraphernalia, firearms, and an undisclosed sum of money.

KCBD reported that if convicted, an unspecified three of those arrested could face up to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine, while the others could face up to life in prison and a $4 million fine.

The 28-year-old Garcia is perhaps best known for his spirited brawl with Roger Huerta last April, which was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He recently returned to the featherweight division in the WEC, after campaigning in the UFC as a lightweight.

"Bad Boy" as Garcia is known, is widely regarded as a Top 10 featherweight, after an impressive 91-second stoppage over the highly regarded Shooto fighter Hiroyuki Takaya on February 13th in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

No hating of me for posting here but I have ta ask why would you throw away a great carreer in fighting like this.

Also the first person to roll is the one who gets off, but also has to watch over his back for a long time.

probably for easy money. The biggest thing about this though is that when the Feds come down on you, its pretty much iron clad as they will spend years building up evidence against you. We may have seen the last of him fighting for a LONG time at this point.
