Jiu Jitsu Academy in Japan?
Thu, 2008-06-26 10:30 — tonynoriega
Howdy all..
Going to Japan from July 13th to the 21st and would (in the words of Ace Ventura) reeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeeeeeealy love to fine an academy near the Naval Base in Yokosuka.
I found one in Yokohama which is about a 1 1/2 hour train ride, but thats as close as i can see...
UNLESS anyone here knows of something closer, or knows anything about this academy...i think its called Axis academy?
just checking my options for a once in a lifetime chance to actually roll in a different country and see the differences.

Axis is the place
Hi Tony,
If you can get to Axis, either the Yokohama academy or the main academy in Tokyo (Meidaimae), you should train there. It will be well worth the trip. I've been training at the Tokyo academy for 4.5 years now (after almost 8 years at Ralph's in MV w/Gumby and the gang) and can tell you w/confidence that it's top notch. Talk to people when you get here and you will hear that it's the best place to train jj in Japan. I have several friends from the army base near Zama who travel more than an hour several times a week to train there & they don't think twice about it.
Hope to see you there.:)
Tomintokyo,
What would be a good day to come in and train? Like i mentioned, i will be there ...say the 14th to the 20th and will be in Yokosuka.
Is that about a 2 hour train ride?
That would be freaking awesome to meet up with you and get a little session in.
thanks
There is a gym about 10 minutes from the base. Below is their website. They have BJJ/NO GI, kickboxing and boxing classes. Directions are on the website.

Tony,
I'd love to meet up w/you over here, but I'm actually heading back to CA this coming Friday and will be there for a month:( Didn't realize until it was too late that you said you were going to be here in July & not in August.
Next time maybe. You'll find plenty of good people to train with there though, no worries about that. I think it takes about 1hr 40min to get to Meidaimae from where you'll be.
The evening classes (5:30-7:00 and 7:30-9:00) are always good, and the morning classes during the week are good too (10:00-11:30).
Hope you have a great trip!
Best,
Tom
