A Huntington Beach woman who was more than 16 weeks pregnant and who police said was injured in a hit-and-run crash with mixed martial artist Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on the 55 Freeway two weeks ago has had a miscarriage, her fiance said Friday.
Holli Griggs, 38, was driving her 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the left lane on the southbound 55 Freeway just south of Bay Street on July 15 when Jackson’s gray-and-green pick-up truck sideswiped her as he drove along the median lane at about 45 mph, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Prosecutors have yet to file charges against Jackson, a former light heavyweight champion for the Ultimate Fighting Championship who remains free on $25,000 bail. Prosecutors would not comment on any potential charges due to Griggs’ miscarriage.
“Our office will make sure we take as much time as necessary to make a proper filing decision and including all evidence and medical information to make sure any charges that are filed are fair and accurate,” Dist. Atty. spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.
Efforts to reach Jackson and his representatives have been unsuccessful since he was arrested.
Griggs was unavailable for comment Friday. Her fiance, Bill Krebs, said doctors were immediately concerned when they noticed a significant loss of fluid in Griggs’ womb after the accident. Days before the crash, the couple had visited the doctor for an ultrasound, and Griggs was told she “had enough fluid for three babies,” Krebs said. She was pregnant with a boy.
Griggs was sent to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian after the accident, CHP officials said. Krebs said he and Griggs were then sent to pregnancy specialists at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim, where doctors noticed the problem.
The couple have retained an attorney but have yet to take legal action against Jackson.
“No amount of money will bring back my son,” Krebs said outside his home Thursday.
Jackson was arrested July 15 after Costa Mesa police say they chased him from 18th Street and Newport Boulevard, where he was weaving through traffic with a flat tire while talking on the phone all the way to 18th Street on Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach.
Jackson ran several red lights, drove on concrete islands narrowly missing pedestrians, headed into oncoming traffic and hit another car, police said. Officers did not test Jackson for drugs or alcohol because he did not appear to be under the influence, Sgt. Bryan Glass said. He was released that night on bail.
The next day, Jackson was taken from his Irvine home and hospitalized for observation after police deemed he was a danger to himself and others. Jackson was upset by Forrest Griffin in a light heavyweight title bout in Las Vegas July 5.

That just sucks for everybody.
I can't believe that. That is one bad day that Rampage is going to have to deal with for a long time.
Well I try to give some insight on the possible problems he faces. Now with that said we do not know the circumstances to the entire incident. The news is only about 50% reliable on their reporting. It says that Rampage was not tested the day of the incident. That is possible but I am surprised as I understood that he went to Orange County jail and had to be medicaly cleared. But with that said he may have not been tested. That will work in his favor IF he was under the influence at the time of the traffic collision (T/C). There are many things which will play into this in court. One will be did the T/C cause the miscarriage? Was there any other medical conditions which were documented prior which may have led to the miscarriage? The statement above saying that the female was transported to the hospital from the scene and the doctors finding an immediate problem sounds like the T/C caused the problem with the pregnancy. Also how many months pregnant will play a roll in this also. A female that is one month pregnant does not have a full term baby yet. If she was six months pregnant then you do have what the courts consider a baby (This is where the abortion debate has been battled for years....when do the courts consider a fetus a baby). I am not here to debate any of this but to only give some insight on this.* I feel horrible for the family and what they are going through with the lost of their baby.
OK so lets look at the charges that I can see just from the news. 20001 CVC fleeing the scene of a traffic collision with injuries(Felony). Now if the miscarriage is a result of the TC and is a full term baby there is the possiblity of a 192 PC charge (Also referred to as vehicular manslaughter) need I say FELONY. I doubt that rampage tried to hit that vehicle and kill anyone wo I do not see a 187 PC (Homicide) charge being filed here. There are the evading Police section 2800 CVC which covers both felony and misdemeanor (Just add the appropriate subsection of .1 or .2). Often in pursuits we try for the felony sections (because if you run from the Police you are endangering other peoples lives) but we do not always get the felony. In this case it is reported that he drove on the sidewalk and people had to run for cover........FELONY. With the legal sections covered I would like to say that my heart and prayers go out the family and their lost of their child.I do feel bad for Rampage and his family but I feel worse for the innocent family which was sitting in traffic and lost their child. I could give my thoughts on how I feel this trial will play out but I perfer to stick with just giving the violations that I see on the TV.
Damn, I agree, this sucks for everytbody.
Thanks Kibun for the insights.
Dam kibun kicks the real knowlage down. thanks for the info. this really sucks for everyone.
I do not understand the mentality some have here. Rampage made a piss poor decision(s). Now he has to live with the repercussions. How is this sad for anyone past the woman whose life Rampage ruined?? I have lost any and all respect I ever had for Rampage. He is an idiot!
Jake
I agree with you 3 harmonies with the exception if Rampage is on medication for a mental disorder, then I may understand to extent what happened but I do not clear Rampage of responsibilty.
I was sitting around and discussing this with some fellow Officers and we all came to the same basic conclusion. Rampage probably will not face the vehicular/negligent homicide for the unborn baby. He will face charges for the hit and run but with a good attorney he will should be able to plead some of the charges down.
Where he will not get out of is the civil liabilty to the family. He may want to do several more fights as he will be paying some money out.
Once again I will say this is a sad event and my prayers go out to the family who lost their unborn child.
Oh man!! This is a horrible and tragic situation! I agree that this sucks for everyone. It's too bad this situation happened.
