Xande wins at Sengoku!

    Sun, 2008-09-28 08:59 — LovatoJr

Xande won last night in Japan with a 3rd round TKO over Takashi Sugiura. Xande was dominating the stand up and took him down in the first, but didn't have enough time to finish an arm-bar. He couldn't take him down in the second until the very end of the round and in the third with about a minute left, Xande unleashed some punches and knees to cut the guy open and get the TKO.

I think it was a great experience for Xande to go 3 rounds and get comfortable on his feet enough to finish the guy.

Here are the rest of the results:

Lovato was right about Xande being ahead of the curve in the standup game. watching a great grappler with zero striking (Dean Lister) is just as hard to watch as a great striker with zero grappling (Houston Alexander). Xande looks like the real deal!

i think xande can be as good at mma as he chooses to be - he is so incredibly technical it's crazy. that said, i think the fight showed that he has alot to work on (same can be said for roger). i thought he would have an easier time against a (very tough) japanese professional wrestler who was no sakuraba

My description of the fight was a little off. Sugiura completely escaped the arm-bar in the first round and it wasn't a TKO because of a cut, it was TKO from a referee's stoppage.
