UFC 90 - Silva vs. Côté (October 25, 2008)
Sat, 2008-10-25 12:06 — Bevois

The UFC makes its first foray into the Windy City at UFC 90 - Silva vs. Côté. The event takes place in the Chicago metropolitan area on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
The main event will feature UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his title against TUF 4 finalist Patrick Côté. Silva has been an absolute juggernaut, since joining the UFC in June of 2006, finishing all 7 of his opponents within the first two rounds. The French-Canadien fighter Côté will look to challenge the Brazilian champion, as he is riding a 5 fight win streak, where he's won 3 of those fights via TKO.
The scheduled bout between Diego Sanchez and Thiago Alves was also set to be one of the featured fights with welterweight title shot implications on the line, but a rib injury to Sanchez forced him off the card. He has been replaced by Josh Koscheck, who took the fight on two week's notice.
In middleweight action, Thales Leites and Goran Reljic were set to square off, but Reljic was scratched from the card due to an injury. Miletich Fighting Systems' Drew McFedries is now set to face the Nova União jiu-jitsu black belt in Leites. This change in middleweigts has now added the highly anticipated lightweight tilt between TUF 5 standout Gray Maynard and TUF 4 veteran Rich Clementi to the main card.
In a heavyweight showdown, 2007 ADCC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, who is fresh off TKO victories over Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera, steps into the Octagon to face UFC newcomer Junior dos Santos, who is a training partner of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and the Nogueira brothers.
In a top tier lightweight battle, former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk steps back into the Octagon for the first time since losing his title to B.J. Penn at UFC 84. He will face the hungry and exciting Xtreme Couture lightweight standout in Tyson Griffin.
Finally, Melvin Guillard was slated to fight Spencer Fisher in a lightweight bout, but was replaced by Shannon Gugerty due to Guillard's legal problems. Due to injury, Ricardo Almeida was replaced by Dan Miller to face a fellow former IFL middleweight champion in Matt Horwich.
Then in perhaps the bigest storyline fight of the night, Hermes Franca faces his former instructor Marcus Aurelio, who replaces his injured teammate Gleison Tibau. The final fight on the card will be a welterweight bout between TUF 2 veteran Josh Burkman and TUF 4 veteran Pete Sell.

Sorry but i was not impressed with the fights last night. I thought that Silva was playing around in the cage too much. It was obvious that Cote was not as good as Silva but I feel Silva should have fought and not danced around.
Can't wait to watch the poetry in motion, that Anderson puts on display.
I agree! I also see Koscheck stopping Alves. The rest of the card is decent, despite all the injuries.
Poor Bevois. :(
He loves Silva, but Cote is in his blood.
