Why don't people talk more about Demian Maia?

    Wed, 2009-04-15 14:28 — 21tomlinson

First of all, let me say that I really don't watch a lot of UFC. I'm really into training jiu jitsu and I watch fights from time to time, but I'm not a hardcore fan or anything. But one thing I really like doing is studying Demian Maia's videos on YouTube. He has a lot of great techniques and he explains them really well. Anyway, I was curious to know what his UFC record was and I noticed that he's never been beaten before. But when I talk to die hard UFC fans, they all know who GSP, Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson, and other popular guys are, but a lot of them never mention Demian Maia. I'm just wondering why he isn't talked about more and why a lot of fans don't even know who he is, when he's obviously such a talented BJJ guy and great fighter. Thanks for the info.

Most fans only know the people who are advertised in front fo them all of the time. There are many good fighters out there who have not promoted themselves very well. That is their fault if they want to make it in the sport.

Has anyone trained with Maia before? Worth the money and time? He is coming through both Seattle, and Ohio when I am home visiting, and I was thinking of checking out the seminars.
    Thanks

I've never trained with him, but if you have the opportunity to do so I would definitely take advantage of it. I've talked to guys who have trained with him and they say he's a very nice guy, very patient and very knowledgable.
