UFC 100 to broadcast live in Mexico on network television channel Televisa

    Wed, 2009-07-08 22:41 — chernobyl kid

While the UFC has yet to announce a U.K. broadcast partner for Saturday's historic UFC 100 event, the organization has managed to secure a network-television contract in Mexico.

As the UFC continues its marketing push into Mexico and Latin America, Saturday's event will air live on Televisa.

UFC 100 takes place Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

In an official release from the network, Televisa today stated the broadcast would "mark the beginning of a strategic alliance" between the company and the UFC.

The UFC and fellow Zuffa, LLC-owned promotion the WEC have long coveted the Mexican market, and both organizations have suggested an event could take place in the country as early as 2010.

Founded in 1955, Grupo Televisa is the largest media conglomerate in the Spanish-speaking world, and its programming airs throughout Latin America.

In addition to several network television, cable television and radio broadcast outlets, Grupo Televisa is also involved in several other business interests including ownership stakes in three different Mexican soccer teams, as well as Stadio Azteca, the 105,000 seat venue that hosted the 1968 Summer Olympics as well as the 1970 and 1986 FIFA World Cup final matches.

The partnership with Televisa comes less than two weeks after the announcement of the UFC's partnership with Inner Mongolia Television in China.

However, U.K. MMA fans are still holding out for a last-second announcement as to where they will be able to watch UFC 100 after the UFC terminated its relationship with its financially challenged former partner Setanta Sports. UFC official have indicated that despite the lack of a formal partnership at this time, UFC 100 will air live in the U.K.

I DON'T THINK THAT COUNTRY SWITCHED TO DIGITAL TV. AS A MATTER OF FACT, IF YOU LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE MEXICAN BORDER AND HAVE A TUBE TV WITH RABBIT EARS, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO WATCH THE FIGHT FOR FREE.:p
