So last night was my first ever Gi BJJ class. I have a little bit of experience in No-Gi BJJ (1 month or so). I will say the first hurdle for me was trying to watch how everyone was putting their belt on, lol. I had my instructor show me but he did it so fast I still have no idea. (so if anyone has a video or something that would help). We did warm ups with one of our instructors Anthony Del Valle for about 30mins. Then we drilled 3 different techniques shown by our main instructor Jake Behney. Then came the live rolling. This is a beginners class so everyone is a white belt ranging from 1 month to however much experience. My first roll I got tapped with a collar choke, never using a Gi I had no idea that it was coming. But against the same opponent starting on knees facing each other there was a quick scramble in which I secured an anaconda choke. The next opponent I tapped with an armbar from guard, and a gogoplata from guard. He got me with an rnc after I gave up my back in a scramble. Next opponent got my back in a scramble also and tapped me with an rnc. I tapped him also going from omoplata that I didn't stop his roll so I rolled too and secured an armbar. I also started in each opponents guard, passed to side, and got the mount. All in all I had a great time. I have SO much to learn it is incredible. I had my collar grabbed so many times not knowing if I should defend it or if they were just trying to control me that way. But I am starting to do it twice a week so I am excited to learn. I am still doing no-gi twice a week also, same with Muay Thai and boxing. But it was great, just wanted to give my newbie account to my first experience with a Gi class.
