Long Beach, Ca – Topping Inc Sunday night continued on in their quest to bring quality MMA fights to Southern California fans. Offering great ticket prices and providing 9 action packed bouts Long Beach Fight Nights is on its way to becoming one of Southern California premier shows for up and coming fighters.
For the main event the promoter pitted Team Wildman fighter Dominic Verdugo (4-2) against Sandusky Ohio native and Team Beatdown fighter Marcus Ajian (2-0). Verdugo would be coming off an impressive TKO victory over Luis Cordero at TFA #12 but Sunday night he would not look like the same fighter as he would be submitted in less then one round.
Ajian for most of the fight would control the action, taking Verdugo down at will and controlling him from the top position. Verdugo to his credit would listen to his corner and get to his knees where he would shoot for the takedown only to be caught in a guillotine choke less then two minutes left in round one sending the Team Wildman fighter back to the drawing board.
In the co main event of the night Wrestling stand out and Team Bodyshop fighter Maurice Eazel (3-9) would use his superior wrestling ability to win a unanimous decision victory over Undisputed Boxing team fighter Eric Castile (1-1). Although Castile would constantly keep his opponent thinking with his submission attempts the stronger Eazel would use strikes, takedowns and positional control to persuade the judges Sunday night.
Having better luck then his teammate Dominic Verdugo, Preston Scharf (5-6) would need less then two minutes to take down and finish his opponent Alex Richards (3-6) Sunday night. Scharf would come out strong at the sound of the bell taking his opponent down and immediately clearing the legs as he would transition to the mount position. As he would take a second to base out he would grab the neck of Richards and land some brutal punches that would make the ref stop the fight.
Team Bodyshop would go 2-0 Sunday night as Eazel’s teammate and US Marine Sergeant Vince Ortiz (0-2) would finish his opponent Cory Johnston (0-1) in a classic Judo style armbar. Although on the feet Johnston would display the cleaner strikes it would be Ortiz’s ground game that would allow him to take control of the fight and eventually finish his opponent from the scarf hold position.
In a brutal contest of skill vs. will undefeated fighter Mitch Mellotti (2-0) would use his superior striking skills to overwhelm ShoXC veteran Eric Jones (0-2). For 7 minutes Mellotti would use footwork, straight punches and kicks to wear down his opponent and although Jones would showcase an iron chin a punch kick combination would finish him off at the two minute mark of round two.
Sunday night new comer Chad Walter would use the guard position to catch Raja Shippen (2-2-1) in an armbar that would have the Fight Night veteran tapping with less then thirty seconds left in round two
In lightweight action new comer Marlin Gustafson would submit Fight Night veteran Tommy Lee (0-1) via guillotine choke giving the new comer his first professional win and sending Lee home down two.
In a battle of new comers Ryan Rogers would use an arm triangle Sunday night to submit his opponent Demetrice Woods.
Finally on the card new comer Justin Hubble would defeat the always tough “Tall” Paul Karsky (7-11) via Unanimous decision in a three round battle.
